- Description
- It is a topic that has been debated for years: is it useful to include assessment of personal qualities in the selection procedure for future health professionals? It is widely acknowledged, indeed axiomatic, that doctors and other health care workers need attributes additional to academic ability to perform competently and professionally. While the existing literature gives a good indication of which personal qualities are appropriate in this regard, it is essential to a successful outcome that not only should personal qualities assessment be implemented at the point of selection, but also that a barrier assessment of these same qualities be built into the health professional education programme so that the most suitable graduates are produced.
